The group was formed in 1991 and its name comes from the insult “boukake”. In its early days, the group gave its letters of nobility to oriental rock, mixing “rai, rock, and reggae”. Surveyor of international stages, this melting pot of musicians and singers always slaloms between chapels and mosques to weave powerful and colorful music that borrows as much from the Maghreb as from rock. In 2001, they released their first album, Makach Mouch’kil, whose title means “no problem”. At that time, they are seven to compose this formation: Abdou and Djélal on vocals, Thierry on guitar, Stef on keyboards, Bubulle on bass, and Pascal on drums.
Although having done a good number of concerts, it was in 2004 that the group really broke through, on the occasion of the Découvertes du Printemps de Bourges, for which they were finalists. This victory allows them to do three years of touring through twenty countries and festivals including the 2005 edition of Womex, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and Paléo2. In 2005, they released the album Bledi and toured all over Europe to promote it. In 2007, they were nominated for the BBC Radio World Music Awards3, then they released the album Marra a year later, in 2008, which contains twelve songs sung in Arabic.
